Urdu Poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz

The name of Faiz Ahmed Faiz needs no introduction to the Urdu speaking people. He is truly one of the greatest poets the Urdu language has seen. In his times and around there is only one Urdu poet whose wits can be compared to Faiz Ahmed Faiz. The name of that poet is Habib Jalib.

Other than Habib Jalib, Faiz Ahmed Faiz is considered the only poet who raised his voice against tyrant rulers. Some people also compare Faiz Ahmed Faiz to the legendary Urdu poet, Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

It is true that Allama Iqbal also wrote some great Urdu poems. Nevertheless, he was in good books of the British too. In this contrast, Faiz Ahmed Faiz had to face bans and even imprisonment. The imprisonment of Faiz Ahmed Faiz was not for some days. In fact, it was for nine whole years that Faiz Ahmed Faiz was imprisoned.

Faiz Ahmed Faiz also had an unconventional married life. He married a very noble French lady. She converted to Islam before marriage. She spent her entire life in Pakistan. In fact, she was the one who always remained extremely sincere with Faiz Ahmed Faiz. She never left Pakistan after his death. Moreover, she took care of her and Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s children in an exemplary way.
