Tribute paid to Urdu poet

Prof Fateh Muhammad Malik rector of International Islamic University has said that Noon Meem Rashid was the leading Urdu poet who broke domination of traditional Urdu poetry and brought acknowledgment to the modern free poetic genre.
One-day seminar organized by Urdu Department at Oriental College Sheerani Hall, on 100th birth anniversary of Noon Meem Rashid. Fateh Muhammad Malik said Noon Meem Rashid was poet, critic and essayist. He also said Rashid had a unique command of Urdu language and was known for his love for humanity.
Prof Fakhar-ul-Haq Noori Chairman of Urdu Department gave an account of Noon Meem Rashid’s life and his poetic contribution. In his presidential address, Prof Dr Mujahid kamran Vice Chancellor of Punjab University said, the Oriental College had played an important role in the promotion of Urdu literature and poetry in subcontinent.
Principal of Oriental College Dr Mazhar Moeen, Nasreen Rashid, late poet’s daughter and Prof Dr. Mahmood Akhtar also addressed the ceremony. Later Dr Kamran gave away shields to Prof Fateh Muhammad Malik, Nasreen Rashid, Dr Fakhar-ul-Haq Noori, Dr Saadat Saeed, Prof Kh Muhammad Zakria, Prof Omar Ali Zaidi and other Urdu scholars.
