Parveen Shakir was a great Urdu poetess. She was born on 24th November, 1952 in Karachi. Literary figure across the country paid rich tributes to Perveen Shakir on her 58th birthday anniversary. Kishwar Naheed who is also one of the prominent poetesses Kishwar Naheed said to private TV channel, Parveen Shakir was the first female poetess who expressed feelings and emotions of a young girl in a realistic manner.
She depicted the issues related to the women. “How women face exploitation was the subject of her poetry and tragedy of her life too. And she gives a message for women that they must have high aims whatever the consequences are,” Kishwar said.
Iftikhar Arif (Chairman of National Language Authority) talking to APP and said Parveen Shakir was prominent figure of literary circle who impressed the young a lot via her realistic poetry. Her poetry was a breath of fresh air in Urdu poetry. Parveen Shakir’s death was a big loss of Urdu poets’ fans and community. She left literary pieces those would be remembered for long time.
Parveen Shakir died in a car accident in Islamabad. Her death dilapidated Urdu literature of an outstanding poet.
